Drones and ISIS Combat

The United States, Russia and other countries all want more modern aircraft. However, Ukraine doesn't have the same resources as the United States to train its soldiers to fly these aircraft. The Ukrainians may have been trained in Western countries on vehicles and aircraft but they do not have the same training for drones. Because Ukrainians have grown up using older equipment, such as trucks, drones are easier for them. Drones are also easy to use for soldiers because they don't need "pilots". Drones can also be used in a similar way to video games.

Aerorozvidka

Ukrainian military uses an unusual approach to fighting ISIS in east Ukraine. Octocopters are equipped with thermal cameras and can be used for night-time missions. Some drones come with anti-tank weapons. They can also light up columns. These drones are very maneuverable and can hold up to 11 lbs of payload. They are small enough to fly low above targets and drop munitions.

Aerorozvidka began as an IT enthusiast group. It has since evolved into a military air reconnaissance unit. The first mission of the organization was to operate a drone company. But, over time, it became a fully-fledged unit, with its own head. Because of export control, the Ukrainian government prevented Russian military planes from entering the country. Aerorozvidka depends on crowdfunding and donations to keep the company afloat, as many of the drone components are made in the USA.

Switchblade

The U.S. military is supplying Ukraine with armed "Switchblade" drones, which are able to strike Russian tanks from miles away. The US Air Force developed these unmanned aerial vehicles in response to Ukrainian needs. John Kirby (Pentagon spokesperson) stated that more then 121 of these machines have been dispatched to Ukraine. But there is no concrete information on how the Switchblades will be used in the conflict in Ukraine.

The Switchblade is a small drone that is easy to launch from a tube and has a range of 40 kilometers. The Switchblade is able to hit a Russian convoy 6 miles away, which is unlike Bayraktar drones. These small aircraft are easy to set up during conflicts like the Ukraine. The Switchblade can fly much faster than the Bayraktar (current U.S. ally).

Russian kamikaze drones

Recently, the US announced a $800 million military aid package to Ukraine. One of those packages includes the delivery of 121 unmanned planes, known as "Phoenix Ghosts," that are designed to terrorize Russian troops. These aircraft are designed for flying over areas for up to thirty to forty minutes and come equipped with warheads, cameras, and other equipment. Switchblade, which weighs in at 5.5 pounds and can be used to destroy armored vehicles or tanks, is one such drone.

These small, lightweight aircrafts have a powerful, low flying gimbal that allows them to fly from air, land or sea. In a conflict like this, any advantage an opponent has over the other side in the aerial battle is important, and the use of Russian kamikaze drones is a direct threat to that advantage. This capability will prove to be critical for Ukraine's defense, since it can break Russian sieges as well as attack command-and-control centers. While such capabilities would be a major liability for both sides, if a small drone can make a difference on the battlefield, Ukraine could emerge as the victor.

U.S. drones loitering

Russia has started integrating ZALA KYB lotering munitions to its military arsenal. These drones have the ability to use deadly loitering munition in the style of bazookas. This could lead to the proliferation these autonomous killing machines on black markets. However, experts and pundits have expressed concern about this. So what can the U.S. Do to prevent this?

Kirby says that more than 121 Switchblade drones have been sent by the U.S. to Ukraine to assist Kiev in fighting Russian forces. The Switchblade drone measures 5.5lbs and can hover above an area for anywhere from thirty to forty minute. It is fitted with a camera and a small warhead. It has the mission to take down opposition forces in Ukraine.

FAQ

What is the maximum height you can fly a drone with no license?

The FAA has no limits on the maximum height a drone can fly. The FAA does require you to register unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), which include the registration number of your model, weight and size, serial numbers, manufacturer's names, date manufactured and other information.

What is the law on drones flying over private property?

New rules were recently published by the FAA regarding commercial drone flights. These rules only apply to UAVs less than 55 lbs and lower than 400 feet above the ground. Commercial operators must register at the FAA and apply for a license. They will also require permission from local authorities to operate near airports and other restricted areas.

Where can I buy a drone?

You can find many different types of drones online. Some people prefer to buy drones online via Amazon, eBay and Walmart. Others prefer to purchase their drones directly at the manufacturer.

Is it possible to fly a helicopter while driving?

Drone flying while driving can be dangerous as you may collide with another vehicle or object. You also risk hitting pedestrians or other animals. A collision with power lines, trees, buildings, or power lines could cause serious damage to your vehicle.

Do I need any special training to fly drones?

No, you don't need special training to fly your drone. You only need a remote controller unit and basic knowledge about flight mechanics.

Are Drones Banned Where?

The FAA bans drones flying in restricted areas such as airports, stadiums or sporting events, nuclear power stations, hospitals, prisons, and other sensitive areas. However, they do allow them to fly at night using GPS technology.

Can I fly my drone indoors

Yes, you can fly your drone indoors. Your home should be free from obstacles and hazards. For instance, avoid flying near windows and doors, heating vents, heating units, air conditioning units, electrical outlets or water pipes.

How To

How To Fly Drones For Beginners

A drone refers to a remote-controlled aircraft designed for aerial photography, surveillance and scientific research. Drones have been in use since World War II. However, commercial use began in 2010 when DJI released their Phantom series of quadcopters. There have been many drones made since then. These range from beginner-friendly drones like Parrot AR Drone 2.0 to more advanced multi-rotor craft like DJI Mavic Pro.

There are many methods to fly a Drone, including

  1. Remote control - This method uses a control device attached to your hand, which enables you to steer the drone through its flight path. There are two main types: Joysticks (like a radio), and On/Off switches (like an alarm clock).
  2. Manual Control – This method lets users remotely control the drone by using a smartphone app. The app will give you instructions.
  3. Autonomous flight - The drone takes over the piloting duties. It is basically flying autonomously and without human intervention. To enable autonomous flight, the drone should have a built in camera and sensors capable recording images and data.
  4. Triggered Flight – This method is very similar to manual flight. The pilot creates a route that the drone will follow until it reaches the destination. Once the programmed route is completed, the drone lands automatically and returns back to the base.
  5. Landing Gear- Some drones include landing gear that allows for safe landing if the power goes out or they run out of batteries.
  6. Goggles-Some pilots use goggles to protect their eyes from debris during operations.
  7. Camera - Some drones are equipped with cameras allowing you to capture photos and videos from above.
  8. Obstacles: Some drones are equipped with obstacle avoidance systems to prevent them from hitting obstacles.
  9. Speed – Some drones can reach speeds in excess of 40 mph.
  10. Battery Life - Most drones are capable of lasting between 20 minutes and three hours, depending on the power that you use.
  11. Range - Some drones can travel upto 30 miles depending on their models.
  12. Power source - Some drones require an external power source; others work off internal batteries.
  13. Weight - Some drones can be as light as 1 pound while others can reach 4 pounds.
  14. Size - Drones come in many sizes, from small gadgets that fit in one's hands to large craft that weigh more than 50 lbs.
  15. Price - All drones fall within a specific price range, from high-end models that can cost thousands of dollars to lower-cost options starting at $100.
