Drones can be used to fight ISIS

While Russia, the United States and other countries are keen to have more modern aircraft, Ukraine has not been able to provide the same training for its soldiers. Although the Ukrainians have received training in Western countries such as Germany on vehicles and aircraft, they cannot receive the same training in Ukraine on drones. Ukrainians are accustomed to older equipment like trucks so drones make it easier to use. Drones are also easy to use for soldiers because they don't need "pilots". Drones can also be used in a similar way to video games.

Aerorozvidka

The Ukrainian military uses a unique approach to combating ISIS in eastern Ukraine: octocopters equipped with thermal cameras for nighttime missions. Some drones can be fitted with antitank weapons and can even light up columns. These drones are highly maneuverable, and can carry as much 11 lbs payload. They are small enough to fly low above targets and drop munitions.

Aerorozvidka was founded as an IT enthusiasts group. However, it has evolved to become a military reconnaissance unit. Aerorozvidka began as a civilian drone company. However, the organization grew to become a fully fledged unit with its own head. Because of export controls, the Ukrainian government barred Russian military aircraft from entering the country. Aerorozvidka relies upon crowdfunding and donations to maintain its existence since many of its components are manufactured in the US.

Switchblade

The U.S. military has supplied Ukraine with armed "Switchblade," drones capable of striking Russian tanks from faraway. These unmanned aerial vehicles were developed by the US Air Force in response to Ukrainian requirements. John Kirby, a Pentagon spokesperson said that more than 121 of the machines have been sent to Ukraine. There is not yet any information about how the Switchblades are used in the conflict with Ukraine.

The Switchblade, a small drone, can be easily launched from a tube. It also has a range up to 40 kilometers. The Switchblade, unlike Bayraktar drones can strike a Russian convoy up to 6 miles away. In a conflict like Ukraine, these small aircraft can be set up in minutes. The Switchblade can fly much faster than the Bayraktar (current U.S. ally).

Russian kamikaze drones

Recently, the US announced a $800 million military aid package to Ukraine. One of those packages includes the delivery of 121 unmanned planes, known as "Phoenix Ghosts," that are designed to terrorize Russian troops. These unmanned aircraft can fly for 30 to 40 minutes over large areas and are equipped with cameras and warheads. One such drone is the Switchblade, a 5.5-pound hovering munition that can take out armored vehicles and tanks.

These small, light aircrafts come equipped with a powerful, low flight gimbal which allows them to operate from either air, ground, or water. In a conflict like this, any advantage an opponent has over the other side in the aerial battle is important, and the use of Russian kamikaze drones is a direct threat to that advantage. This capability will be crucial to Ukraine's army, as it can break Russian sieges or attack command-and control nodes. While such capabilities would be a major liability for both sides, if a small drone can make a difference on the battlefield, Ukraine could emerge as the victor.

U.S. loitering drones

Russia has begun integrating its ZALA KYB loitering munitions into the military arsenal of the country. These drones are able to use lethal loitering munitions in the manner of bazookas. The use of loitering drones may lead to the proliferation of these autonomous killing machines in black markets. However, experts and pundits have expressed concern about this. What can the U.S. do?

drones with camera and video

Kirby reports that the U.S. government dispatched more then 121 Switchblade loitering drones to Ukraine to support Kiev's fight against Russian forces. The Switchblade drone, which weighs in at 5.5 lbs, can hover over an area for 30 to 40 minutes. It's equipped with a camera. Its mission is to eliminate the opposition forces within Ukraine.
